Brief, still it is a bit of a spoiler for 2x05 A Night in Sickbay:
When I watched the opening scene with Archer, Porthos, T'Pol and Hoshi in their blue decontamination chamber, and saw Archer rubbing Porthos all over with this goo, I couldn't help but to think of Viridian5's opening notes for Thorough and also the story, which I recently read, and then I had this picture of Archer/Porthos in my head. Gah!
Also, why the heck lets Archer his beagle pee just anywhere, when he already knows these people are so easily offended? I think I'm more and more with the Vulcans' assessment of humanity's fitness for space exploration in this series.

Beats me. Archer is kind of retarded that way. Why is the dog on the spaceship in the first place?

You see, I sort of get that he doesn't want to leave his dog for years, and though I have a hard time buying that the regulations would allow pets, it is a long term space trip, so maybe it's all flexible. I even get his reasoning that Porthos deserves to be planet side once in a while, but -- on the planet with the most easily offended aliens? To an official function? Without a leash? Without even have the dog take a piss before, so it won't do anything embarrassing? It's like he has no common sense whatsoever.
