I've watched the latest O.C. ep, and somehow I don't really warm up to the series, despite the pretty, the teen angst, and some characters I'm really starting to like. I think it's because the characters are in so very awkward situations a lot of the time. With the current plots all of the characters feel awkward in some way or the other in the presence of half the other characters, and that's not a favorite thing for me to watch.
It's not exactly like with my embarrassment squick, less intense, but it's still not relaxing to watch for me. Does this make any sense? On the one hand I'm all "aww, Seth, Ryan, Marissa, the cuteness! the woobie!" (okay, so I watch it as fluff, it's not the kind of source material for which I feel compelled to seek out deep analysis, I admit that), on the other hand each time I start to get into my "eye candy groove" so to speak, there's some scene where awkwardness hits me, and I feel like a bucket of cold water was dumped over me and I itch to do a fast-forward. I'll still watch next week's episode, Seth's speech to Ryan about how they have to stick together made up for a lot.
